Well last night was a Wednesday night. While there has been quite a hiatus on BBR vs33rd Brigade Wednesday's over the last 6 months or so. Last night it made a triumphant return. Boy did it feel good to see all the names and here all those voices.
In lieu of a functioning party system we opted to create a non ranked room and then over the XMB I messaged everyone to join the room. Wasn't perfect, but it worked. A few major oversights by Zipper in terms of the non ranked created rooms is that there is no way to create a medley. At least from what I could tell. So create a room it only has one map per created room. If you want to play another map, someone has to create another room. Not the easiest but we made it work.
We played some Uplink, Last Defense and Bomb Squad and at one point I could 20 people in the room. I opted to not set the rooms up in Classic mode as people are still trying to acclimate to the maps. With that said in a few weeks once everyone has cut their teeth, I believe Classic BBR vs 33rd is going to feel... well Classic.
Socom 4 is not a perfect game. That is an understatement. It has some glaring problems. I will admit that as most will. It was not completed upon release and that is quite unfortunate. With that said, I heard a number of both 33rd and BBR players talking with elation about being together and gaming on Socom again. I was like a kid in the candy store mostly fueled by a few beers and maybe some tequila but nonetheless I was truly excited. More so than I have been about any game quite frankly sinceConfrontation. While other games maybe more graphically pretty, completed upon release, better UI, etc... None capture that community experience the way that Socomdoes. The objective based maps still required a great amount of teamwork and communication and it was there. That was awesome to see and hear.
We had some 33rd recruits joins us for the fun which was nice. A big welcome to both Bigg Tugg rocking his Gorman skin ( which caught me by surprise ) fragging people left and right and Tuskegee Black who was tearing it up with both his knife as well as his Assault rifle.
We also has the BBR/33rd Vets Bones, Nascar, DB, Dmoney, Guts, Paragon, Lethal Jay, Beast, and more on the 33rd side and Buck, Horrorshow, Warchi and more representingBBR. Apologies to those not mentioned, Jose Cuervo has jogged my memory a little. Last night was a major step in the right direction in my opinion and for this gamer it was the first time Socom 4 felt like home again. I know that may sound lame or cliche but it is the truth.
Here's hoping the Zipper can patch some of the issues in a timely manner and I look forward to many nights running along side all of you.
